Welcome to SugarBush Bikinis', where exquisite handmade crocheted bikinis come to life in Palm Beach, Florida.
Founded by Chenelle Marie, our brand is inspired by the Protea, South Africa’s national flower, affectionately known as the “Sugarbush”.
This name embodies our passion for the beauty of nature and craftsmanship.
The Journey
The journey began when Chenelle’s Poppa gave her a ride to accompany her Nana, a dedicated knitter for the homeless, to restock yarn at ‘Sparkles’ in Bitou, Plettenberg Bay…
Where & How It All Began
What began as a chance meeting with Lana, an exceptionally talented crochet artist, quickly grew into something far more meaningful. From that initial connection, we discovered a shared vision and set out to combine artistry, creativity, research, and purpose to reimagine what handmade swimwear could be.
Together, we elevated traditional crochet into a luxury bikini collection, crafted with premium materials, impeccable fit, and a soul that balances timeless craftsmanship with modern innovation.
Ke-Ka Creations was founded by Lana Le Roux, who began her journey creating handcrafted crochet designs, naming the brand after her two sons, Keegan and Karl. In 2024, a chance meeting between Lana and Chenelle Marie sparked a creative partnership
that would evolve into something far greater. Working between Plettenberg Bay, South Africa and Palm Beach, Florida, the two spent months designing, refining, and perfecting each piece, often shipping individual samples back and forth across continents.
Through trial and error, they tested multiple yarn suppliers from around the world, experimented with different linings and finishes, and overcame countless challenges in pursuit of the perfect product.
What emerged was a collection of handcrafted designs that combined technical skill, creativity, and intention, laying the foundation for what is now Sugarbush Bikinis.
The Story Of Our Logo
SugarBush Bikinis' logo is a heartfelt creation by founder Chenelle Marie, who hand-painted a protea using her grandmother’s acrylic paints. The design of the protea was chosen with certainty, but the brand's name remained a mystery for three weeks!!
After a Google search for “different names for protea,” they discovered that the protea’s nickname is “sugarbush,” and that’s when everything clicked. The hand-painted artwork was then digitized and featured across the brand’s collection, printed on shirts, embroidered on hats, and even engraved on a small metal charm sewn into the crochet detail on the back of the bikini bottoms.
This thoughtful combination of artistry and heritage truly embodies the spirit of Sugarbush Bikinis.
From an Idea to a Vision
We saw crochet not as a limitation, but as an opportunity to refine and elevate it into something extraordinary. Together, we reshaped designs, experimented with new techniques, and pushed ourselves to create pieces that blended tradition with sophistication.
Every step was a lesson, each adjustment, each discovery brought us closer to redefining handmade swimwear. It was more than design; it was a shared passion, a partnership, and a purpose.
